Cracker was chosen as the best alcoholic drink in the region, fending off competition from two other beers and two ciders in a five-strong shortlist that was originally taste tested by over 60 judges. Wood’s MD Edward Wood received the award from BBC Midlands TV presenter Joanne Mailin at the HEFF Diamond Awards dinner in Birmingham.
We’re delighted that Cracker has taken such an important title. It was one of our original and one of our best beers. We’ve been producing it for over 30 years and despite its name, Cracker sells well all year round because people love the rich, dark fruit cake flavours and deep sweetness. Coming hot on the heels of our 5000th brew, this is a very special award indeed!
HEFF promotes and celebrates the best of local food and drink from across Shropshire, Staffordshire, Cheshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and Birmingham and Black Country. Cracker, a 6% beer, was the only winner from Shropshire this year.
Judges in the 10 categories of food and drink included retail, hospitality and food service buyers, chefs and consumer.
