History of Wood Brewery
The Wood family, brothers Anthony and Edward and their father Basil,
converted the stables next door to the village’s Plough Inn and
started brewing real ale to the very best traditional methods in 1980.
It has since become one of the most successful small independent breweries
in Britain. Managing Director Edward Wood and staff have extended the
brewery to twice its original size to cope with demand for Wood’s
own ales and for brews of Sam Powell beers – favourite recipes rescued
from a mid-Wales brewery which ceased trading in 1991.
Wood’s friendly, enthusiastic team produces and delivers a range
of top quality cask-conditioned beers which are extremely popular in the
West-Midlands and Wales, and which drinkers enjoy in pubs all over the
country.
Watch out for us at beer festivals all over the country, and in particular
at the Marches Food Festival, held each September in the historic Shropshire
town of Ludlow, about 10 miles from the Brewery.
